Perhaps the most widely respected distillery in the whisky world, Springbank remains family owned, and has an enviable reputation for doing things right: they never chill filter or colour their whiskies. This 18 year old is one of the whisky world’s most eagerly awaited annual releases, having maintained an extraordinarily high quality throughout. This classic Campbeltown whisky is now packaged in a smart dark purple bottle. The whisky is matured in a mixture of 80% former Sherry casks and 20% former Bourbon barrels, creating an intense and rich whisky which retains excellent balance.
On the nose this whisky demonstrates its distinctive Campbeltown heritage, with wonderful earthy coastal notes, oily kelp, baked nuts, sweet cherries, bananas, charred oak and bread. The palate is thick and luxurious, with sweet and fragrant woodspice, zinging citrus rind, oily sea spray, toffee and bright vanilla. The finish is lingering, oily and delicious, with lasting sherried fruits and dark oak flavours. A modern classic of the whisky world, that doesn’t last long on the shelves, so drinkers should move fast if they want to try this wonderful whisky!
