One of the most anticipated annual releases in the scotch whisky calendar, Springbank’s Cask Strength 12 year old never fails to impress. This particular bottling has been aged in 70% sherry casks and 30% former Bourbon barrels, producing a whisky of superb balance. Springbank Cask Strength is rich with citrus peel, biscuit vanilla and dried fruit notes, alongside the classic Campbeltown funk and a slight peat reek. This edition weighs in at a mighty 56.5% ABV, and as always with Springbank, is not chill filtered and presented free from any artificial colouration. This is particularly beneficial for the mouthfeel, allowing the whisky to show off the viscosity that comes with Springbank’s distinctive two-and-a-half-time distilling process. Springbank maintain their excellent cask strength form with this fantastic addition to the series. These limited release do not tend to stick around very long, so Springbank fans should buy now to avoid disappointment.
