A remarkable single malt whisky from a surprising location, Bavaria in Southern Germany! This whisky is distilled at the Slyrs Distillery, based in a small market town called Schliersee in the Miersbach region. Having been established in 1999, and launched its first whisky three years later, Slyrs is a relatively new distillery. That said, it has quickly acquired a hard-earned reputation for quality, and now produces about 65,000 bottles a year. Slyrs uses the famous Bavarian malt that has blessed so many fantastic beers and ales, and fresh mountain spring water to create their marvellous spirit. Another distinctive feature of the distillery is its unusual, almost hourglass shaped stills.
This whisky is matured in a mixture of sherry, port and sauternes casks, combining some of our very favourite cask types at Fine Drams. It takes its name from its strength, 51% ABV. On the nose this whisky offers up lovely fruity aromas of plums, white grapes, tinned peaches, dark oak and sultanas. The palate remains faithful to the nose, whilst adding slightly floral notes, a thick mouthfeel, sweet wine and malty toffee flavours. The finish is long, lingering and rich with malty sherried notes. A beautiful, complex and layered dram. Please note this whisky is presented in 35cl bottles.
