Not something you see everyday, a single malt whisky from Bavaria in the South of Germany! This is made at the Slyrs distillery in the small market town of Schliersee in the Miersbach region. The distillery was established in 1999, launching its first whisky in 2002. Since then the distillery has quickly established a good reputation, producing 65,000 bottles a year, not bad for a producer of their age and size! Slyrs is produced using Bavarian Malt (more famous for beer-making) and using mountain spring water. The Slyrs distillery also has a distinctive feature in the unusual shape of their stills, which are almost hourglass shaped.
This is a whisky matured in virgin American oak casks. On the nose this whisky offers aromas of baking bread, malty biscuits, apples, toffee, buttery and caramel. The palate is medium bodied, with a good chewy malt character, and flavours of apples, pears, cinnamon, toasted oak, vanilla, bananas and toffee. The finish is short and sweet, with a delicious lemon peel tang. No artificial colouring is used in the production of this whisky! Please note, this is a smaller, 35cl bottle.
