Also known Black Label, this is a Single Malt whiskey produced in Montana, USA. Roughstock are a grain-to-glass distillery, using local products and bottling on site. They use no automation in creating their whiskey. This single malt is produced using the highest quality Montana mountain spring water, and double distilled in copper pot stills, before being aged in virgin American white oak barrels with a heavy char. Whiskies for this range are produced from single casks specially selected by the Master Distiller himself for their high quality, before being bottled at full cask strength, in this case 61.65% ABV, or 123.3 proof.
On the nose rich malty biscuits and juicy dark raspberries, cherries and blackberries. Vanilla and toffee comes through after a while. The palate is rich, oily and hot with peppered spice, toffee, oak, vanilla, stone fruit, the berries of the nose and some barrel char. The finish lingers with sweet malt, berries, drying woodspice. These flavours are given a huge boost by the incredible strength of this dram, though it is not for the faint of heart! A great snapshot of this fascinating distillery.
