A 13 year old single malt from Ireland! The Quiet Man is a relatively new Irish Whiskey company. They take their name from the founder’s father, who was a bartender in Belfast for 50 years. During a career as long as this “behind the stick”, one is likely to hear and see many things. Yet this barman kept his knowledge to himself, and therefore earned the honourable title of “the quiet man”, or An Fear Ciuin in Irish.
This particularly bottling was created especially from the Dutch spirits festival, The Pot Still Festival of 2017. This whisky was matured for 13 years in a single former Bourbon American oak cask, number 12829. The spirit itself was distilled at Ireland’s famous Cooley distillery.
Drinkers should expect a classic Irish profile of grassy caramel, toffee and vanilla notes, with touches of cinnamon, nutmeg and red fruit. A core of buttery malt holds up this dram. Bottled at 50% ABV, and without either chill filtration or colouration, this allows the whisky’s natural qualities to shine through.
A single cask release, stock is highly limited and drinkers should move fast if they want to get their hands on this special, one off bottling.
