An interesting bottling form Bajan distillery Mount Gay. This expression forms part of their Master Blender Collection, which shines a light on the individual styles of spirit that are blended together to produce the distillery’s standard range.
This is a 100% pot still rum, produced in Mount Gay’s double retort stills. The spirit is aged for just six months in “Virgin ex-whiskey casks” (which we can take to mean first-fill Bourbon barrels). The short maturation means that the spirit’s natural character is very much on show.
This bottling is the first blend from new Master Blender Trudiann Branker, the first female Master Blender in Mount Gay’s extremely long history.
Packed with classic notes of “hogo”, the rum delivers flavours of bold grilled pineapple and overripe banana, ginger, grassy sugar cane, funky molasses, apples, toffee, custard, mint, cedarwood, cigar smoke, coffee, light oak and cracked black pepper. A very dry rum.
A wonderful example of the pot still style, this is a superb debut from Branker.
