A well aged single cask bottling from Gordon and MacPhail, this time of the famous Beast of Dufftown – Mortlach!
Known for the weighty texture of its partially triple distilled spirit, Mortlach particularly shines in indie bottlings and sherry casks – and this is both. The spirit has been aged for 25 years in a first fill sherry butt, having been distilled in 1994 bottled on the 28th August 2020.
The final result is a thick, moreish dram with notes of vanilla, sherried dried fruits, almond, strawberries, plums, meaty malt, apples, fruitcake, creamy custard, ginger, milk chocolate, soft nutmeg and other baking spices. An excellent balance between the Mortlach spirit and the sherry cask, particularly after such a long maturation.
Bottled at a warming 55.9% ABV and without chill filtration, this is a lovely, full bodied whisky.
Only 606 bottles were produced.
