A peatier expression from Highland Park, this bottling continues their Norse myth theme.
This whisky is made to honour the dragon myths held by the Vikings who ruled over Orkney. Particularly, the bottling recalls the legend of the warrior Sigurd, who fought the serpent dragon, and symbol of evil, Fafnir. Upon licking the dragon’s blood, Sigurd was given powers of wisdom and foresight.
This whisky is made with local peat from Hobbister Moor, giving it a tie to the land that birthed these legends. The dram has also been matured in sherry seasoned casks, giving it a sweet complexity.
The result is rather like a kicked up version of the popular Highland Park 12 year old. Strong flavours of spicy, earthy and floral peat smoke are accompanied by delicious sweet wine and fruit notes of the sherry casks.
Bottled at 43.1% ABV for a little extra strength, and without additional colour, this whisky has a medium body and good mouthfeel.
Dragon Legend might not give you the powers of Fafnir, but it will deliver an experience as intense and extraordinary as that of Sigurd.
