An extraordinarily luxurious bottle and glass pairing from venerable independent bottlers, Gordon and MacPhail.
This set pairs a charming cut-crystal style glencairn with an astonishing bottling of Highland Park, distilled in 1973 and bottled in 2009, totaling 36 years of maturation. This bottling has been matured in a first fill sherry butt, imparting flavours of dried fruit and spice to the typically coastal Orkney malt.
This expression possesses flavours of apricot jam, oranges, apples, cut grassy, a faint maritime peat smoke, dark oak, malt, salt, citrus rind, sherried dry fruits, spice, liquorice, toffee and vanilla. For a whisky that has been aged in a first-fill butt for so long, the balance here is excellent, with neither spirit nor oak overpowering.
Bottled at 43% for a touch more complexity, this dram is presented without artificial colouration.
Another top-quality Gordon and MacPhail bottling.
