A new blended grain whisky from Grant’s, this forms part of their Elementary series. This series aims to explore and highlight the specific scientific elements involved in the production of whisky. Neatly, each blend will feature an age statement that reflects the element’s place in the Periodic Table. Unlike the other blends in the series, Oxygen is features no malt whisky and is purely a blended grain. Ironically, much of this whisky was distilled without oxygen, at the Girvan distillery’s unique vacuum still. Here William Grant use the oxygen free environment to distil at a lower temperature, allowing for an unparalleled sweetness and clarity of grain flavour. So, it is rather a lack of oxygen that plays a crucial role in this whisky. As oxygen takes the 8th place in the periodic table, this whisky has been aged for 8 years in American oak barrels. An extremely interesting whisky, and great value for money in this big, one litre bottling.
