Another excellent whisky from St George’s Distillery, in Roudham, Norfolk. The distillery first started producing in 2009, and has swiftly earned a reputation for excellent quality – it is one of the shining lights of England’s fledgling whisky revival.
This time round they have taken on a style most would normally consider uniquely Scottish. This is a peated whisky, made with malt which has been smoked to 45 ppm.
The result is a cereal-forward dram, with rich, peppery smoke flavours accompanied by touches of tropical fruit, vanilla, toffee, apples and a little bittersweet citrus.
Bottled at 43% ABV and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a delightful alternative to the traditional Islay malt.
