A mighty fine drop here from the Craigellachie distillery in Speyside.
This well aged, single cask, single malt was selected by Gordon & MacPhail for their Connoisseurs Choice range. Craigellachie is known for its characterful spirit, produced in part by its continued use of worm tubs, creating a muscular new make well-suited to long aging.
First distilled in 1994, this whisky has been aged for 26 years in a single refill Sherry Hogshead.
The final product is a dram rich in jammy blackberries and strawberries, with subtle notes of bitter orange rind, dark chocolate, tobacco leaf, vanilla, charred oak, black pepper, toasted nuts, apple and grilled pineapple.
Bottled at a warming 57.6%, and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a high quality offering typical of Gordon and MacPhail.
Just 207 bottles were produced.
