Chicken Cock are a brand of whiskies best known for being smuggled across the Canadian border in tin cans during prohibition. The spirit was first created in 1856 in Kentucky, but is now produced in Charleston, South Carolina, by Grain & Barrel Spirits. Whilst the label features the words “Bourbon” and “Whiskey”, and this is a blend of corn spirits from Kentucky and Indiana, it is not yet old enough to be called a whiskey in Europe, as liquor has been aged for around two years. Somewhat ironically considering the history of this dram, Chicken Cock found themselves the subject of a daring bootlegger’s heist, when 10,000 bottles were stolen from a truck! The spirit itself has a classic Bourbon profile in many ways, with a rich vanilla note, a little spice, some barrel char and a delicious caramel highlight. The spirit’s 45% ABV allows for the flavours to take hold of the palate. Another excellent revived American Bourbon that we are glad to welcome back!
