An excellent gift set from the historic Château du Breuil distillery.
Normandy distillery Château du Breuil is based around a 16th century castle. The distillery continues to grow their own apples on a small, 42 hectare orchard, located entirely within the Pays d’Auge region.
This set is comprised of three excellent miniature bottlings at different ages: an 8 year old, a 15 year old and a 20 year old.
The 8 year old leans towards the fruitier side of the spectrum, with a strong green apple flavour, good acidity, and a faint oak influence with notes of vanilla and gentle wood spice.
The 15 year old kicks up the woody flavours considerably, with a strong bright oak, cinnamon and nutmeg profile, accompanied by classic Calvados apples, some pressed flowers, slight pepper and toffee. This miniature is very much in the middle off the spectrum between oak and fruit.
The most complex of the three bottlings is the 20 year old, which is packed with flavours of oaky spice, dried fruits, citrus rind, tobacco smoke and baked apple. This is one of the finer Calvados expressions on the market today, and illustrates just how good the spirit can be.
Three great drams in one set, this is a great chance to get to grips with one of the finest producers of Calvados around. As an added bonus, the bottles are beautifully presented with wax and string closures, and a wooden presentation box.
A great gift for any spirits drinker!
