An intriguing traditional Dutch spirit produced by the veteran distillers, who have been in the business since 1575.
This is spirit is essentially a six year old, barrel-matured Jenever. Corenwijn translates as ‘Corn Wine’ a reference to the spirit’s base of malt distillate.
This is then flavored with juniper, and matured in a mixture of Limousin French and American oak casks.
Six years have given this spirit quite a good deal of depth and complexity, with oaky notes of woodspice and vanilla, alongside a core of malt and verdant juniper freshness.
Corenwijn tastes a little like a cross between gin and whisky, and should be drunk like the latter, neat.
