A very interesting gin indeed from one of the biggest names in the industry. This is a classic Beefeater gin, made to the original recipe established by James Burrough’s (who the gin is named after) way back in 1860, whilst it is also distilled in his original still. Still Number 12 is very small indeed by industry standards, with a total capacity of 268 litres. After distillation the gin is rested for a time in former Lillet French oak barrels, the first gin which has ever had this aging process, which gives the spirit its slight golden colour. The aging also gives this gin a subtle floral flavour, with notes of elderflower and honeysuckle, a slightly drying herbaceous, and a powerful citrus note. These flavours work very well with the classic gin profile of earthy spice, bittersweet juniper and citrus rind. An interesting, yet surprisingly drinkable gin, which could be drunk neat! The gin benefits from being bottled at the slightly warmer strength of 43% ABV.
