Batch number 62 in Aberlour’s long running, much loved A’Bunadh series.
The distillery claim that this whisky is based on an 1898 bottle that workmen found in a time capsule in 1975 during repairs. After the workers polished off the majority of the bottle, the remainder was sent to be analysed, and A’Bunadh was the attempted recreation.
The whisky changes from batch to batch, but there are some certainties: it is always matured in Oloroso sherry butts, it is always cask strength, and it is always delicious.
This batch offers up notes of cloves, hot cinnamon sweets, Christmas cake, malt, molasses, chocolate raisins, plums, sherry, dark oak, vanilla, tobacco and dark, fudgy toffee.
Bottled at 59.9% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration, this is a rambunctious, satisfying sherried dram.
A’Bunadh fans will not be disappointed.
