A brand-new cask strength release from French distillery Vicomte. France continues to be one of the world’s biggest consumers of single malt whisky so it makes sense that they would look to produce their own, and Vicomte is an excellent addition to the world whisky scene. This is a 9 year old whisky produced in the Cognac region (it goes without saying, this is an area with considerable spirits history) from organic local barley produced in Poitou-Charentes. The whisky is distilled in traditional copper pot stills and aged in former Cognac casks made from Limousin French Oak casks. A tremendously fruity single malt whisky, and incredibly powerful at a massive 67.8% ABV. It’s definitely not one for the faint of heart, but brave drinkers will be rewarded with wave upon wave of cherries and dark fruits. For a finishing touch, the whisky is packaged in lovely bottles that demonstrate the French sense for sophistication. A must-try for world whisky drinkers.
