A fascinating rum, bottled by one of the oldest sherry producers in the world, Valdespino.
Bottled as part of Valdespino’s ‘Rare Spirits’ range, the rum was originally distilled from pure sugar cane in Panama and the Dominican Republic. It was then shipped to Valdespino’s winery in Spain, and aged (unsurprisingly) in their own sherry casks.
The final product is a rich, full bodied rum that offers notes of orange rind, dried fruits, plums, dates, honey, dark oak, grassy sugar cane, cinnamon and nutmeg spice, vanilla, dark chocolate and brown sugar.
A great example of a sherry matured rum – with the maturation adding depth and complexity to this bottling.
