A jaw-dropping Tomatin bottled by Gordon & MacPhail for their Connoisseurs Choice range.
A 1988 vintage, this dram was aged for fully three decades in a single refill American oak hogshead, having been bottled on the 21st of December 2018.
The result is a ludicrously rich and decadent which opens up with notes of whipped cream, fresh lime rind, apples, ground coffee, milk, a little leather, slight chilli and cinnamon, dark chocolate, buttered popcorn, grassy malt, flowers, charred oak and fresh grapefruit juice.
Despite its great age, this whisky has maintained its strength admirably, and is bottled at a robust cask strength of 59.2% ABV (also without either chill filtration or colouration).
Only 199 bottles were produced, each coming with their own wooden box.
A magnificent achievement by Gordon and MacPhail.
