It is rare that we ever see a Glenlivet of such prodigious age, let alone one bottled in such a high-regarded series as the Signatory Cask Strength range. These bottlings, from the formidable independent bottlers, Signatory Vintage, are some of most well regarded in the industry, and it is easy to see why when they deliver such high-quality releases as this 34 year old Glenlivet! Distilled on Friday the 13th of November 1981, this date proved to be anything but unlucky, as it marked the birth of this fabulous dram. The whisky was matured in a Hogshead for 34 years, until the 3rd of October 2016 – making it nearly 35 years old! This bottled was drawn from cask number 9654, and is one of only 249 available, making this a highly limited whisky indeed. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 49.2% ABV, the whisky is natural in colour and non chill filtered, meaning this is a close as you could get to drinking it straight from the cask. Drinkers should expect rich notes of vanilla, dried apples and pears, bright malt, slightly dusty oak, white grapes and some mild nutmeg. An absolutely fantastic whisky, that would make a great addition to any collection of single malts or Glenlivets!
