Another excellent gin from this small, Perth-based distillery. Strathearn have released one whisky, and there are more in the pipeline, but this is not the only cask aged spirit they produce! Indeed, we have here a cracker of a barrel aged gin.
This gin begins its life like all Strathearn gins, with the botanicals first vapour infused in the 500 litre pot still, before the more delicate botanicals are macerated. This gin uses botanicals of juniper, coriander seeds, orange peel, lemon peel, liquorice root, rose petals and vanilla.
After distillation, this gin is immersed with the staves from American oak barrels, lending to the peppery, citrusy and juniper forward spirit, notes of vanilla, toffee and barrel char smokiness.
Oaked gins have been gaining a lot of attention recently, and this is an excellent example, best enjoyed as you would enjoy a whisky: either neat, with water or over ice.
