St. Lucia Distillery is doubtless of one the finest rum producers in the Caribbean, creating a marvelous quality of spirit. Unlike many of their competitors, St. Lucia adds no additional sugar to their rums, allowing the lovely flavours to speak for themselves. This is the fifth batch of this rum, celebrating 84 years of rum production on the island, and the distillery’s year of foundation. This is a small batch bottling, a blend of both pot and column distillate, aged for 12 years. On the nose this rum opens with estery vanilla, sultanas, mango, orange rind, pineapple and toasted almonds. The palate is full of tropical fruits and fresh cane, with pineapple and mango taking the fore. The finish is short, sweet and fruity. A highly quaffable and delicious rum, which offers outstanding fruitiness! The flavours have been given a real boost here from being bottled at 46% ABV.
