Rum Sixty Six is produced by the R. L. Seales at the Foursquare distillery. Foursquare is based in 8-acre former sugar plantation, nestled in the verdant countryside found in the south of Barbados. Richard Seale, the master distiller, has an excellent reputation for producing high quality spirits with meticulous production techniques and inventive, intelligent casking. Unlike many other distillers, Seal refuses to add any additional sugar to his rums. This rum is produced from fermented molasses, in very small batches of 112 barrels. Originally (as the name suggests) this rum was reserved just for the Seale family, but luckily for us, this excellent spirit has been released for general sale. This rum has been aged for 12 years in smaller American oak casks. Given the warm Caribbean climate of Barbados, spirits mature a lot faster, meaning that 12 year old rum tastes a lot more mature. On the nose, this rum is rich and fragrant, with prunes, treacle, vanilla, woodspice and toffee. The palate is full and dense, with mellow oak, overripe bananas, prunes and vanilla. The finish is long with a robust oak flavour and creamy vanilla custard. This rum was awarded a “Best in Class – Silver Medal” when it was presented at the International Wines and Spirits Challenge in 2009.
