Created by Serge Buss for his Belgian company, Buss Spirits. Buss Spirits takes its cue from customers at Serge’s Antwerp bar, Bar Bounce, the first dedicated gin and tonic bar in Belgium. With Shack Rum, they experimented for some time at the bar, listening to customer feedback, until they were sure that they had found the perfect formula. Shack Rum was released to great acclaim, picking up two gold stars from the 2015 International Taste and Quality Institute. This new brand is making a splash in the European spirits world, and is certainly one worth keeping an eye on. On the nose, this is a bright, sweet and estery gold rum, with hints of tropical fruits, bananas and toasted oak. The palate brings juicy fruits, brown sugar, caramel, woodspice and cream. The finish is short and sweet with a big hit of white sugar sweetness. A lovely rum, delicious in cocktails and when drunk neat.
