Scapa 2005 (Bottled 2017) - Gordon & MacPhail (Distillery Labels)
70 cl, 43%

The Distillery Label editions of Scapa from Gordon and MacPhail feature, proudly, a Viking longboat on the packaging; meaning that G&M might lay an earlier claim to the use of Viking insignia than that other Orcadian distillery…

Aside from the rather unfair reputation as the “second distillery” in Orkney, Scapa is known for using a Lomond still (with plates removed) to distill, and for being one of the hardest working distilleries in Scotland, with many more distilling days than the industry standard.

This bottling is a 2005 vintage, bottled in 2017, aged for about 12 years.

A light hint of peat smoke opens this dram, with some touches of grassy malt, honey, vanilla, fresh citrus, tropical fruit, coconut, bright oak, charred oak, hot pepper and cinnamon, with a little milky cocoa to finish.

Bottled at an ever so slightly warmer 43% ABV, and without artificial colouration, this is a beautifully crafted whisky.

Another top-notch addition to the Distillery Labels series.
