A big 1.5 litre bottling of one of the world’s most famous and best-selling liqueurs.
Ricard pastis is meticulously made in Marseille to a secret recipe, including aniseed, fennel, herbs de Provence and liquorice - which is carefully shaved by hand, shredded and placed in a large percolator.
Alcohol and water is forced through this percolator under pressure, three times, producing a kind of extract. The herbal extracts are combined with neutral spirit, sugar and caramel, giving Ricard its classic yellow colour.
The result is a liqueur that offers notes of rich green fennel, chopped herbs, black liquorice, mint, lemon and anise seed.
Traditionally served with ice water, slowly combined, so the drink takes on a milky colour.
