An outstanding gin produced, once again demonstrating that Spain is producing some of the finest examples of the spirit in the world. This gin is produced by Destileria Premium Spirits Distillery, in the Ibernian nation, and is created to be a replication of 18th century gins. Produced through distillation in four “artisanal” copper stills, Port of Dragons uses a malted barley spirit as their base. This gin uses botanicals with a Guarantee of Origin and Quality “(Denominación de Origen”), meaning that terroir is of utmost importance to this spirit. Juniper from the Pyrenees is used, alongside liqourice, coriander, angelica, vanilla, lemon peel, orange peel, star anise, cardamom, hibiscus, nutmeg, hazelnut, ginger and almond. The final product is a herbal and piney gin with a classic juniper and citrus forward flavour profile. This is definitely a “pure” gin, with a style to suit the purists out there. Excellent stuff that makes a fine Gin and Tonic!
