A delicious, unaged 2016 vintage grappa from Friuli distillers Nonino.
Nonino only produces single vintage bottlings for years that had particularly good harvests, such as the 2016 vintage. This bottling has been made from a blend of Malvasia, Friulano and Moscato grape pomace, which has been carefully de-stalked, and fermented in vacuum-sealed stainless steel tanks to avoid oxidation.
The fermented pomace is then distilled in discontinuous copper steam stills. The grappa has been bottled without any aging at all, offering a clear flavour of the grapes used. Friulano, better known as Sauvignon vert, produces an aromatic and floral wine, whilst Malvasia (also known as Malmsey) and Moscato offer fruity sweetness.
The final result is a complex grappa, with notes of green wood, bright grapes, flowers, earthy spice, sweet wine, vanilla, and a touch of minerality.
A perfect after dinner tipple.
