Finnish Gin created by “the Adventurous Rye Rye Gentlemen” at Kÿro micro distillery in Isokÿro, a tiny town in the country’s west. The distillery was first thought up by five men in a sauna! This is a very small batch gin, made with rye spirit for a greater quality throughout and inspired by the founders’ love of rye whisky, and Finland’s large rye vodka industry. This little distillery has very large ambitions- to be known as the best distillery of rye spirit anywhere in the world. Kÿro distillery distils its wild, hand foraged botanicals in separately so each can macerate its flavour to the greatest extent. As for meeting its ambitions, the distillery is off to a good start with Napue, a gin of spectacular quality. Extremely flavourful, with strong red fruit, meadow grass and coriander elements, whilst the rye spirit provides a undercurrent of delicious woodiness and spice. In 2015, this gin was declared best in the world by the International Wine and Spirits Competition. It is a gin suited to simplicity, and as such is excellent in a gin and tonic, but is also very popular served in the “President Kekkonen” style, over ice with a handful of aromatic juniper, lingon or bucthorn berries!
