Few gins can be said to be truly out of this world, but this is one of them. Created by That Boutique-y Gin Company (better known as an independent bottler of whiskies), this gin is made entirely out of botanicals that have been sent into space! Juniper, angelica fresh lemon rind, coriander, cubeb pepper, chamomile flowers, dried bitter orange rind, cardamom, cinnamon and liquorice root were all blasted at least 20km into the stratosphere. At this altitude the oils in the botanicals will be affected, as the pressure is so low that water will be boiled at body temperature. Most incredibly, That Boutique-y used actual moon rock from a lunar meteorite as one of the botanicals which is sure to create an interesting flavour. The gin takes its name from a slight arcane term which means to launch an ambitious project without an understanding of the risks or even potential benefits. Whilst this gin has quite the story, it proves to be more than a gimmick, with a wonderfully citrusy, oily and slightly mineralic, with an excellent bittersweet juniper flavour. Makes for a truly stellar G and T for the space age! Only 1,000 bottles of this batch were produced, so drinkers should move fast if they want to try this dram.
