Vintersol translates as “winter sun”, and references the large lack of sunlight during the Swedish winter. To add a little warmth to proceedings, Swedish distillery Mackmyra have enlisted the support of famous Port wine producer Quinta Do Vallado.
This Quinta is one of the oldest in the Douro Valley, and have provided Mackmyra with some beautiful former Port casks for this dram. In all, the spirit is aged in combination of first fill Bourbon barrels, first fill Oloroso, Swedish oak, virgin American oak and 1st fill Port casks.
The final result is an elegant, juicy whisky with notes of raisins, dark fruit, mangos, pineapple, pear, vanilla, bright toasted oak, dessert wine, sweet red grapes, cinnamon, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cloves, pepper, ginger, anise, and crunchy malt.
Vintersol was bottled at 46.1% ABV without chill filtration or colouration. Production was overseen by Master Blender Angela D’Orazio.
