The release of the new Longrow 18 year old is always a highlight on the whisky calendar. The 2019 release certainly maintains this bottling’s excellent reputation.
Longrow is the title given to peated spirit produced at Springbank, taking its name from a now lost Campbeltown distillery which stood adjacent to Springbank. Unlike Springbank’s titular offering, which is partially triple distilled, this whisky undergoes standard double distillation – giving it more of an Islay feel.
The spirit has been aged in a combination of former sherry and Bourbon casks, giving it a rich and complex character.
Drinkers can expect notes of funky, earthy Campbeltown peat, vanilla, burnt wood, dried fruits, wood smoke, iodine, sea spray, dark chocolate, lemon zest, coffee, cigar smoke, cedarwood, cream, red berries, cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, cloves, sherry and toffee.
A beautiful dram, which will appeal to fans of peated whisky, the bottling is presented at 46% ABV and without chill filtration or colouration.
Springbank have done it again!
