Long Pond Cambridge 13 Year Old 2005 STC❤E
70 cl, 62.5%

A fascinating and wonderfully rare rum from the Long Pond distillery, bottled by the esteemed Italian company, Velier.

Serious rum fans will know that Long Pond makes a particularly funky style of Jamaican rum. The distillery has also suffered serious setbacks in recent years – closing in 2012and suffering a major fire in 2018. Long Pond spirit has traditionally been used for blending and flavouring other rums, with single bottlings such as this extremely rare.

This bottling is a recreation of the STC❤E cask marque used by Cambridge Estate distillery, that closed back in 1947. The spirit was distilled from molasses in a double retort pot still. The rum has been aged in Jamaica for 13 years, and has an ester count of 550 grams out of a maximum of 700 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol. This places the bottling well beyond the traditional “Common Clean”, “Plummer” and “Wedderburn” categories and into the “Continental Flavoured” (CF) rank.

The result is an incredibly complex and intense rum with a unique flavour profile. Drinkers can expect notes of dusty oak, intense fruity pungency, dark brown sugar, leather, hot orange juice, peaches, bananas, cream, pencil shavings, pineapple, ginger, apples, vanilla, yeast, underripe mangoes, chopped mint, seaspray and bell peppers. We said it was complex!

Just 11 barrels were drained for this bottling – which ran to 3, 648 in total. The spirit was bottled 62.5% ABV, and really is one for all the funk-lovers and rum purists to try.
