An astonishingly dark Linkwood, bottled by Signatory Vintage for their much loved Cask Strength series.
This dram was distilled on the 5th of December 2006, and bottled on the 4th of March 2020, having been aged for 13 years. This Linkwood was initially aged in Bourbon hogsheads, before being finished in an apparently extremely active fresh sherry butt for a time.
The bottling is a ludicrously rich dram, which serves up notes of stewed plums, vanilla custard, intense citrus peel, dark chocolate, sultanas, oak, sour cherries, jammy raspberries, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, walnuts and pecans, caramelised apple and some weighty malt.
Obviously sherry-driven, the Bourbon cask does provide some lovely, subtle notes here, producing a complex final product.
This Linkwood is bottled at a fiery cask strength of 58.4% ABV, and without either chill filtration or colouration.
720 bottles were produced.
