Peat and sherry is always a winning combination, and this Ledaig from Tobermory distillery is an excellent example of the style.
Ledaig is the name given to Tobermory’s peated spirit, and is known for its typically oily and coastal style. Aged for 19 years, the whisky is finished for a time in Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. Pedro Ximénez, or PX as it is often known, is a syrupy sweet, raisin-rich style of sherry which is perfect for imparting dense fruity flavours that compliment the peat of Ledaig well.
This dram delivers notes of dates, old oak, dried apricots and figs, walnuts, coastal peat, charred oak, salted caramel, wood smoke, milk chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. A surprisingly Christmassy whisky.
Bottled at an extraordinary cask strength of 55.7% ABV, and without chill filtration or colouration.
One of the finest Ledaigs we have tasted, this is the perfect dram to round off a night of whisky tasting.
