Ledaig is the name given to Tobermory’s peated spirit, which is known for its classic Island character and funky quality. This whisky formed part of parent company Distell’s 2018 Limited Edition outturn.
This 1998 vintage, 19 year old, was matured for 6 years in former Bourbon barrels, before being transferred to Oloroso sherry casks for a whopping 13+ years – more of a second maturation than a finish!
The result is a whisky absolutely packed with fruity sherry flavours. The dram opens with notes of funky, earthy peat, followed by notes of fresh berries, rum and raisin ice cream, plums in syrup, liqourice, clove, aniseed, herbs and orange zest. The Bourbon barrel provides the background to this dram, with touches of vanilla custard and bright oak.
Bottled at 46.3% ABV and without chill filtration or artificial colouration, this is a well-crafted dram.
Just 2,400 bottles were produced.
