A lovely expression of the popular, peaty blend, Islay Mist! This 8 year old whisky has been created through working with the Bodega, Hidalgo la Gitana, found Jerez, Spain. The vineyard of this Bodega is the highest in terms of altitude in the Jerez region. This allows the cool breezes rolling in from the Atlantic to reach the grapes, giving the finished Amontillado sherry a delicious salty, mineralic tang to accompany the naturally dry wine. These flavours are the perfect match for the bright cereal and earthy peat notes of Islay Mist. Islay Mist is a carefully created blend of Laphroaig single malt, spicy Highland malt whiskies and Lowland grains, each of which have been aged for a minimum of 8 years. After the blending process is complete, the whisky is finished for a further six months in former Amontillado butts, which have been heavy influenced by the high quality Napoleon sherry. The wine is so named because Hidalgo Bodega serviced French soldiers during the Napoleonic wars.

Drinkers should expect notes of elegant peat with some stone fruit, sea spray and grapes. This whisky was bottled at 43% ABV, giving the flavours a little boost. Only 7000 bottles of this special edition are available worldwide, so drinkers should move fast if they want to taste this peaty dram! Islay Mist Amontillado picked up a coveted Double Gold medal at the 2017 San Francisco Spirits Competition.
