Hirsch have gained a superb reputation for their excellent Bourbons. This is not one such spirit, but it is still a delicious offering from the Kentucky company.
A straight corn whiskey, this spirit must, by law, contain at least 80% corn in the mashbill, and be no less than two years old. Unlike Bourbon the law requires corn whiskies to be aged in either used oak barrels or uncharred oak barrels.
This is a clean and fresh whiskey, with plenty of buttery corn, caramel, grassy notes, alongside some floral vanilla and bright oak flavours. The mouthfeel is oily, yet somewhat sharp.
A feisty spirit, this is ideal for cocktails where one wants a bit more corn sweetness.
