A quite brilliant rum from the famous Hampden Estate in Jamaica. This is one of just two pure single rums from the distillery, bottled in partnership with the highly esteemed Italian bottlers, Velier.
Hampden rums are beloved by aficionados for their high-ester, funky rums that came to typify a Jamaican style, but which are rarely seen these days. The rum is made to an 18th century formula. These unique estery flavours are partly achieved through the use of wild yeast fermentations.
The rum is distilled in traditional pot stills, and features no added sugar. What’s more, it is fully matured in the Caribbean for 8 years, allowing the climate and temperature to accelerate aging and create a more mature spirit. Only natural spring water has been used in the creation of the rum.
The final product offers up incredible notes of dark oak, funky mango and pineapples, with some overripe bananas, deep cinnamon and all spice, burnt caramel, “hogo”, vanilla, flowers, some red berries, cinder toffee and dark chocolate.
A bold, uncompromising rum that delivers flavours rarely encountered. Hampden Estate is bottled at 46% ABV and without chill filtration, ensuring that this rum is fully natural in look, feel and flavour.
The rum is bottled with an extremely informative label, which will appeal to all serious drinkers, nicely adorned with alligators.
