Glenlossie 19 Year Old 1997 (Cask #6756 & #6757) - Signatory Un-Chillfiltered
70 cl, 46%

A very limited release from Signatory Vintage, forming part of their highly esteemed Un-Chillfiltered Collection.

This time round it’s a 1997 vintage from Speyside distillery Glenlossie. Founded in 1876 by John Duff, who later left Scotland in an abortive attempt to establish a distillery in Transvaal, South Africa! The distillery is now owned by Diageo, and single malt releases such as this one are rarely seen. Nevertheless, blenders rank this malt highly, and it is an integral part of the Haig blends.

This is a genuinely small batch production, drawn from just two sister casks (numbers 6756 and 6757). The whisky itself has matured for 19 years in Hoghead casks, developing a lovely, subtly character. The spirit was distilled on the 20th of November 1997 and bottled on the 17th of October 2017, a little over a month short of 20 years old.

Drinkers should expect quite a supple malt, with plenty of classic Speyside notes of orchard fruits, warm hay, toffee, fresh bread and cereal sweetness. 19 years in oak casks has added a little spice, with some bright oak and vanilla flavours.

Bottled at 46% ABV, and without either chill filtration or artificial colouration (as always with this collection), this is a wonderfully natural dram.
