A very delicious special edition from Lowland distillery Glenkinchie. This bottling forms part of Diageo’s popular Distiller’s Edition series, where spirit from their distilleries enjoys a finish in wine barrels.
As is the case with this crisp Glenkinchie, which takes the typically floral dram, and finishes it for a time in Amontillado sherry casks. Amontillado is known to sit between Oloroso and Fino varieties, perfect for adding both dry and sweet flavours to the spirit.
The result is a refreshing yet complex dram, with big notes of fresh flowers, stone fruit, salted caramel, green apples, grapes, sweet wine and woodspice.
This is something of a sequel to the 2010 edition, which was also a 1996 Amontillado finish.
A lovely dram, that offers a little more complexity than many Lowland whiskies.
