A tasty independent bottling of Speyside distillery Glenburgie from Càrn Mòr.
Despite a couple of official bottlings from Ballantine’s, who (through their umbrella company, Chivas Bros.) own the distillery, Glenburgie remains largely unknown and rarely seen as a single malt. The spirit produced here is sweet, grassy and oily with a somewhat meaty character. It is a crucial part of the Ballantine’s blend.
This dram, aged for 7 years in a single sherry butt, was distilled in 2011 and bottled in 2019.
The final result is a wonderfully fruity and malty whisky, with notes of dried fruits, sherry, Christmas cake, lemon zest, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, cereal sweetness and juicy blood orange.
Bottled at 46% ABV, without chill filtration or colouration, the dram is rich in mouthfeel and flavour.
An excellent example of Glenburgie’s superb performance in sherry casks, this is another cracking young dram from Càrn Mòr.
The whisky is limited to just 670 bottles.
