Glen Albyn 1979 (Bottled 2019) - Private Collection (Gordon & MacPhail)
70 cl, 52.2%

A truly remarkable bottling from Gordon & MacPhail’s Private Collection.

This whisky is from the Glen Albyn distillery – a closed distillery which was once one of the most innovative and interesting in Scotland: famed for its unique worm tubs and for being one of the first to use a Saladin malting. The distillery shut its doors for the final time in 1983, and was demolished five years later. Bottlings are now extremely rare.

The bottling has been aged for no less than four decades. The spirit was bottled in September 2019, having been matured in a single first fill sherry puncheon.

The result is a staggeringly complex and delicious dram, opening with notes of rich, sweet jammy red fruits, intense sherry, raisins, prunes, leather, dark chocolate, cracked pepper, toffee’d malt, lemon rind, cinnamon, vanilla, waxy oak, slight lavender and fragrant flowers, espresso and aniseed.

Incredible. Bottled at 52.2% ABV, the whisky is presented free form chill filtration or colouration, to ensure the drinker enjoys every minute of its 40 year maturation.

Beautifully presented in an art deco style bottling and gift case. Just 142 bottles were produced.
