An excellent Pineau des Charentes from the small scale Giboin Cognac House.
Pineau des Charentes is a type of regional aperitif made by combining either fresh or lightly fermented grape juice with Cognac Eau-De-Vie, before the mixture is aged.
This bottling has been made with a base of 40% Ugni Blanc grapes, 40% Merlot, and 20% Sémillon.
The blend was combined sometime before 2007, and has been aged for between 12 to 20 years in total.
The final product is a fortified wine with notes of mirabelle plum, spiced wine, hazelnuts, almonds, flowers, sweet grapes, vanilla, dried fruits, walnuts and light oak.
