A delightful Tawny Port from Ferreira, named after Antónia Adelaide Ferreira, one of the heroines of 19th century Port-making, who helped steer the industry through the phylloxera blight of the end of that century.
This wine is made with Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão and Tinta Amarela grapes, which were hand-gathered in the Doura Valley.
Fermented in stainless steel and aged in oak barrels, this Port has an excellent balance between fruit and oak. The wine is a blend of Ports aged between 4 and 12 years, with an average age of around 7. Drinkers should expect flavours of plum jam, juicy citrus and apricots, with a little floral oak and vanilla.
Production was overseen by winemaker Luís Sottomayor.
A wonderfully complex Tawny, best served slightly chilled and alongside a good cheeseboard.
A fitting tribute to a true hero of the industry, this Tawny received 92 points from Wine Spectator Magazine.
