Highly respected for their small batch independent bottlings of the various distilleries on Islay, Speciality Drinks’ have (for the first time) released a regular bottling. Peat, named after the essential component of Islay’s famous smoky whiskies, is a blend of peated single malts from across Islay. This is a non-chill-filtered expression, bottled at a robust 59.3% ABV, without any colour. Each release from Elements of Islay is personally approved by a stalwart of the whisky industry; in this case Oliver Chilton, the head of cask management at Speciality Drinks. Peat is a big flavoured, rich, monster of a whisky, with huge hits of roasted nuts, spices and of course, thick peat smoke. An intensely peated whisky not for the faint hearted, this is a real treat for Islay fans.
