A tremendous Venezuelan rum from Diplomático. This is a luxurious white rum that demands attention, with a superb softness unusual for this variety of spirit. Unlike many other white rums, only aged spirit has been used to create Diplomático Blanco, as Venezuelan law holds that the youngest component in any rum must have been aged in white oak barrels for a minimum of two years. Yet Diplomático far exceed that stipulation in this rum, using some distillate that is 6 years old. They also use smaller than average casks to concentrate flavour even further. Balance is key here, and the master blender has carefully combined both lighter column still and heavier pot still styles of rum. To remove the colour that aging gives to spirit, the rum is painstakingly drip filtered through charcoal for filtration, giving Diplomático Blanco its bright, clear nature. The rum has a lovely character full of sharp, precise sugar and vanilla flavours. Perfect for mixing into cocktails, but also rare in that it is a white rum that is delicious to drink neat.
