A sophisticated and delicious white vermouth from Italian outfit Contratto.
Based on an original recipe from the early 19th century, the vermouth is made with a base of white wine, enriched with Italian brandy.
Over 50 different botanicals are used to flavour the bottling, with 22 ingredients a closely guarded secret. The remaining 28 are: hawthorn flower, coriander seeds, marjoram, bay laurel, chamomile flower, yellow sweet clover, aloe juice, cinnamon, mint, ginger, angelica, cardamom seeds, nutmeg, sweet orange peel, bitter orange peel, lemon peel, gentian, nettle, carob pods, pimento seeds, mugwort, rhubarb, hibiscus, sage, cinchona bark, bergamot orange peel, liquorice root and sandalwood.
The final result is a delicate, succulent vermouth with floral notes, accompanied by a drying herbal flavour and some citrussy tartness.
Delightful in a Martini.
